How to Fit Your New Desk Leather
Simple Steps to Refitting a Desk Leather
- Preparation: Clean the desk surface thoroughly to remove all old leather, glue, and debris.
- Dry Fit: Lay the new leather (skiver or hide) onto the desk to check the alignment and dimensions before applying any adhesive.
- Applying Adhesive: Apply a thin, even layer of suitable leather adhesive to the desk surface. Some professionals recommend starting from one edge and working across to avoid air bubbles.
- Positioning: Carefully lay the leather down. Use "strike marks" or masking tape on the desk frame to help align the leather perfectly with the tooled edges.
- Smoothing: Use a soft cloth or a leather roller to smooth the leather from the center outward, ensuring it is flat and firmly bonded to the MDF or desk surface.
- Trimming and Finishing: Once the glue is set, trim any excess leather from the edges for a flush, professional finish.
